NavStar Product Portfolio Supports Legislative Trend Requiring the Use of a Hands-Free Device While Driving

NavStar Technologies' (PINKSHEETS: NVST) product concept of combining hands-free calling with GPS navigation capability, aligns the company's products with the trend of banning cell phone usage in vehicles that are not operated in a hands-free mode. The California law that went into effect on July 1, 2008 represents a trend that is growing in the US. Nine states have passed and another eight have legislation pending that requires hands-free calling from vehicles.

NavStar's Voice Navigator(TM) product concept fits nicely into this trend and is designed to allow the user to make calls or to request routes with voice commands rather than inputting their request by touching a screen and being distracted by taking their eyes off the road.

Edward Baig, (USA Today) reported on July 3, 2008 that high quality headsets from Sony, Jawbone, Jabra and Plantronics range in price from $130 to $180. Voice Navigator(TM) with hands-free calling and navigation capability at an expected price point of $149 is well positioned in the product category.

We agree with Governor Schwarzenegger's recent comments, "The simple fact is it's dangerous to talk on your cell phone while driving. CHP [California Highway Patrol] data show that cell phones are the No. 1 cause of distracted-driving accidents. The 'Hands-Free' cell phone bill will save lives."

The product concept is very simple. Customers will use their Bluetooth handset to call the NavStar server and with their voice provide a limited amount of information to their destination. A route will be downloaded to the NavStar device and turn-by-turn directions will be provided to the user's destination. Once the route is downloaded to the NavStar device, the handset is available to make calls in a hands-free mode.
