NSF International Grants Certification to A&A Manufacturing for New Unblockable Pool Drain
Market Wire, July, 2008
A&A Manufacturing today announced NSF International Certification of their Anti-Vortex Single Channel Drain (AVSC). This is the only unblockable drain Certified by NSF to be compliant with the new Virginia Graeme-Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act and the most recent codes. The AVSC is certified to comply with the ASME A112.19.8-2007 as specified in the new Federal law.
The Virginia Graeme-Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act will take effect on December 20, 2008. The new law is aimed at reducing suction entrapment drowning and injuries.
All new residential and commercial swimming pools constructed after that date must include an anti-entrapment drain certified to meet this code.
All existing public pools and spas are required to be equipped with anti-entrapment devices or systems that comply as mandated once the new law takes effect.
The AVSC is the only drain designed with a safety diverter as a second level of protection against suction. It addresses all five potential entrapment hazards identified in ANSI/APSP-7-2006 involving body, limb, hair, mechanical and evisceration.
The drain developed by A&A Manufacturing to meet safety criteria is also designed with a large aperture allowing debris removal, unlike other circulation drains. "The AVSC has several major advantages for builders beyond its cleaning capabilities; it is Certified with flow rates up to 227 GPM and has single or dual inlet options allowing the attachment of two pumps to one drain," said Michael Marshall, Director of Sales and Marketing for A&A Manufacturing. "The AVSC does not require vent lines, SVRS units and is Certified for floor and wall installation," added Marshall.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is taking the lead on implementation and enforcement of the new act. A&A Manufacturing anticipates the new product approved for both concrete and vinyl pools will help safeguard industry pool builders against costly lawsuits while protecting the public.
Andy Blake, General Manager for A&A, said, "The key components of the AVSC drain are its unique combinations of dual-level safety, innovation, durability and ease of installation." The AVSC Drain's regulatory compliance required it to pass rigid NSF flow and impact tests, and 750 hours of UV testing, to gain certification.
