ReachMail Inc. Now Compliant With European Commission's Directive on Data Protection
Market Wire, July, 2008
ReachMail , the easiest, most powerful way to get email delivered, has been notified by U.S. Department of Commerce that ReachMail email marketing is certified to the U.S.-EU Safe Harbor framework on Data Protection. "ReachMail has always maintained the highest standards of privacy protection for the data entrusted to us for email marketing ," said Vice President John Murphy. "Being certified by the U.S. Department of Commerce validates the processes and policies we've worked hard to put in place."
The U.S.-EU Safe Harbor framework on Data Protection was approved in 2000 by the U.S. and European Union. It is designed as a way for U.S. companies conducting email marketing to certify to the European Union that the company provides adequate data protection as defined by the EU's Directive on Data Protection. Details on the Safe Harbor program are at http://www.export.gov/safeharbor/doc_safeharbor_index.asp .
By being certified ReachMail provides important benefits to marketers that send email marketing communications to the European Union. These benefits include:
-- Protection against any privacy disputes arising out of any of their
email marketing campaigns to EU subscribers. Claims brought by European
citizens will be heard in the U.S. subject to limited exceptions.
-- BBBOnline has awarded ReachMail the BBBOnline Privacy Seal for meeting
the requirements under the U.S. EU Safe Harbor program. BBBOnline will
provide third-party dispute resolution services in conjunction with any
Safe Harbor disputes arising from use of ReachMail for email marketing. A
