Adapx Teams With SAIC to Support DARPA's Deep Green Program
Market Wire, August, 2008
Adapx ( www.adapx.com ), the company that is changing the way that teams collaborate and collect data in the field, today announced that it has been awarded a subcontract from Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) in support of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's (DARPA) Deep Green Program. The mission of the Deep Green Program is to enable commanders to use simulation to foresee the outcomes of plans and make necessary adjustments.
The program will develop a synergistic human/machine system, which includes establishing natural warfighter-computer interfaces, creating a common futures graph, and building a synthetic battlespace engine that will understand inputs and employ reasoning to predict multiple battlefield outcomes. Adapx will contribute its expertise in natural multimodal interfaces, which enable teams to interact with computer systems using voice, sketch, and handwriting.
"The goal of our work is to provide a multimodal interface that allows commanders and their staff to formulate and communicate their plans in the way they naturally would, without unnecessarily changing their practices," says Dr. Phil Cohen, co-founder and executive vice president of research at Adapx.
Adapx multimodal speech/sketch software automatically converts hand-drawn sketches and accompanying verbal comments issued during military planning sessions into digital courses of action that can be analyzed and simulated in order to present a set of options to the commander. The company has been developing multimodal systems since 1999, building on earlier work by the company's founders to support DARPA's Command Post of the Future Program.
