NCCI Recalculates Interstate's EMR
Market Wire, August, 2008
Interstate Electrical Services Corporation, the largest merit shop electrical services contractor in New England, was just notified that the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) has recalculated their annual Experience Modification Rate (EMR) for 2007 based on finalized claim data. Originally Interstate's EMR for 2007 was .72; the recalculated rate is .69. Interstate's projected annual rate for 2008 is expected to be an even better .62.
The EMR is an industry accepted way of gauging of a company's safety performance track record. Since the EMR is based on actual payroll data and Workman's Compensation claims, it provides a very accurate representation. The NCCI considers an EMR of 1.0 to be average; anything above that is below average, and an EMR below 1.0 is considered excellent. This is one instance where a lower score is better.
Interstate has maintained an EMR below 1.0 for over 20 years, the result of a steadfast focus on safety training, strict adherence to safe work-site practices, and the ongoing support of Interstate's management and safety committee. According to Ed Zinck, the Company's safety officer, "Our field personnel are really driven to be the best, and that includes worksite safety. We are recognized in the industry as a safety oriented company and the NCCI's re-assessment of our EMR rating really drives home that fact."
