Having announced that it has completed a contract to provide radiation detection equipment for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Universal Detection Technology (OTCBB: UNDT) should once again have investors monitoring the stock! Yesterday, the company, a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and training services, issued a press release announcing that it has received a purchase order from the state of Hawaii Emergency Medical Services for its handheld bio-detection equipment.
More great news for the company and its investors! The purchase order is for handheld devices that test for Anthrax, Ricin Toxin, Botulinum Toxin, Y. Pestis (Plague), and Staphylococcal Entertoxin B (SEB). The purchase order also includes simulation kits that mimic a real world "white powder" incident.
The press release states that UNDT has supplied its biological test equipment to first responders throughout the country including the Washington, D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services and the City of Burbank Fire Department. This order, however, marks the Company's first order from a State Government. According to the press release, the equipment is also used by the U.S. DOD to train first responders on the proper use of the equipment at the Dugway Proving Grounds in Utah.
"We are proud to be supplying our test equipment to first responders throughout the nation and to be supplying the Sate of Hawaii," said Mr. Jacques Tizabi, UNDT's Chief Executive Officer.
Last week the company had reported that it has received a contract to provide handheld assays for bioterrorism detection for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and has fulfilled the contract by delivering the equipment to Beijing ahead of the Olympic Games. According to the press release, the handheld devices are designed to detect anthrax, ricin, botulinum toxin, plague and SEBs in as little as 3 minutes. "The contract for the bioterrorism detection kits comes on the heels of our contract to provide radiation detection equipment for the Olympics," said Mr. Jacques Tizabi, UNDT's Chief Executive Officer. "We are proud to have contributed to the safety of the Olympics games," he added.
The press release states UNDT's 5-agent bioterrorism detection kits have been extensively used by first responders and private industry throughout the country. Testing of the kits by the U.S. DOD, as well as the United Kingdom military, show that the kits show no cross-reactivity with near neighbor species and no false positives with commonly encountered "white powders." The kits will be optimally used to test suspicious powders in any of the numerous Olympics venues.
The contract to supply UNDT's bioterrorism detection equipment for the 2008 Beijing Olympics has come from F&D International Corporation.
Investors are urged to continue to monitor the progress of the company!
The stock closed Tuesday at Three cents a share.
