World Airways Operates Boeing 747-400 Freighter for Lufthansa Cargo
Market Wire, August, 2008
World Airways has begun operating a Boeing 747-400 freighter for Lufthansa Cargo, providing two weekly round trips between Frankfurt, Germany, and Curitiba, Brazil.
"Our contract with Lufthansa Cargo is the first for the initial 747-400 freighter operated by World," said Jeff Sanborn, chief marketing officer. "World Airways also operates three MD-11 freighters for Lufthansa Cargo, and we are proud to be a Lufthansa Cargo partner in providing excellent service for their customers. World has been operating continuously for Lufthansa Cargo since 2006."
The freighter connections to Curitiba are run jointly by Lufthansa Cargo and its Lufthansa Cargo Charter subsidiary, which charters the airfreight capacity. The Saturday flight from Frankfurt via Sao Paulo/Viracopos (VCP) is marketed by Lufthansa Cargo, while Lufthansa Cargo Charter is responsible for the route from South America. The additional routing to Curitiba on Wednesdays is marketed entirely by Lufthansa Cargo.
"We are delighted to be offering customers in cooperation with Lufthansa Cargo Charter a regular service to Curitiba and, simultaneously, further expanding our strong position in South America," said Dr. Andreas Otto, Lufthansa Cargo board member Product and Sales.
Lufthansa Cargo additionally serves the South American market with it own freighter flights to Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo/Viracopos, as well as with belly capacities on Lufthansa passenger aircraft on flights to Sao Paulo/Guarulhos, Caracas and Buenos Aires.
