UnsubCentral Webinar Announces Support of New IAB Recommendations on Email Data Management and MD5 Suppression List Best Practices
Market Wire, September, 2008
Today, leading CAN-SPAM compliance solution provider UnsubCentral announced its support for the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Email Data Management Best Practices. Just released today, the recommendations highlight MD5 encryption as the most secure method for organizations to share suppression data. An early adopter and advocate of leveraging the MD5 technology, UnsubCentral has made MD5 hashed suppression lists a standard in its offerings and has raised awareness in the entire industry through education and collaboration with ESPs.
Currently, many affiliate marketers share their suppression lists with partners via public key encryption or passwords on a ZIP file. However, those methods still provide a plain-text human readable version of the data after the password is applied. MD5 hashed suppression lists encrypt the data so that email addresses are not exposed, ensuring that the list may only be used for CAN-SPAM compliance.
"As a long time champion and advocate of MD5 use, we believe the IAB's promotion of MD5 encryption as an essential tool and best practice is a positive step toward preventing suppression list fraud and theft," said John Engler, vice president and general manager of UnsubCentral.
In light of the new IAB Best Practices, UnsubCentral will update its upcoming Webinar to reflect on the full report and help marketers come up to speed on all of the emerging best practices. "MD5 Hashed Suppression Lists: A Practical Guide to Use and Implementation," will take place on Tuesday, September 23, at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
