The Christian Science Monitor's "Little Bill Clinton" Blog Wins 2008 OMMA Award for Web Site Excellence
Market Wire, September, 2008
The Christian Science Monitor today announces that it has won an Online Media Marketing and Advertising (OMMA) Award in Web Site Excellence for its " Little Bill Clinton " series. The awards, presented during ceremonies at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City, honor luminaries of the online media, marketing and advertising world.
The OMMA Awards celebrate the year's most innovative and brilliant online advertising, creative campaigns and Web sites across 35 categories within these three disciplines. This year two new categories were added: The OMMA Awards for Integrated Online Campaigns and the OMMA Awards for Web Site Excellence for which The Monitor was ultimately a winner. The Web Site Excellence Awards go to Web publishers and/or web developers whose outstanding content, visual design and user interface create recurring value for users.
The "Little Bill Clinton" blog is a real-time narrative series that examines what has become a quintessential American experience: to begin a new life in the U.S. against long odds. The blog tells the ongoing stories of a handful of immigrants in Atlanta, focusing on Bill Clinton Hadam, a Congolese third-grader who attends a charter school for refugees. It includes colorful daily entries about life during school and at the students' homes, weekly video and audio reports on important developments, and frequent print articles on the progress of Bill Clinton Hadam and his school. Readers can use RSS feeds and comment tools to engage each other and the reporter on the topic of immigration.
"We continually strive to explore pressing national and global issues in innovative and interactive ways and being recognized for our efforts by OMMA is an honor," said Christian Science Monitor Online Editor Jimmy Orr. "In a time when newspapers are becoming increasingly focused in the online arena, we are proud to represent a shining example of successful new media strategies."
