New Farpoint Group White Paper Details Performance Benefits of Aruba's New ARM 2.0 Software in Real-World Tests
Market Wire, September, 2008
Video Furnace is a leading provider of enterprise-class IP video solutions. Video Furnace System 4 is a fully integrated video distribution solution that uses a wireless or wired IP network to securely deliver very high quality, optionally-encrypted video to laptops without installed players, plug-ins or downloads. Video Furnace is operating system independent, and the patent-pending InStream(TM) Viewer enables all Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Solaris 10 users to watch video with the simple click of a mouse.
"Our application supports MPEG 1/2/4 compliant video streams at bit rates from 300 Kbps to 12 Mbps, and fast wireless network throughput is essential to avoid annoying delays," Howard Weinzimmer, CEO of Video Furnace. "In the Farpoint tests three separate pre-recorded HD video lectures were streamed over different channels via a single 802.11n access point to 101 802.11a, b, g, and n clients. The lower speed legacy clients did not disrupt the delay-sensitive multicast video transmission, and no delays were observed during subscription to video streams or transmission. That level of performance highlights System 4's many unique features, and delivers a high-quality end-user experience."
"ARM 2.0 relies on a number of technical innovations to control how Wi-Fi clients interact, and thereby ensure that Classroom Presenter, DyKnow, ExamSoft Worldwide, and Video Furnace applications have sufficient network resources and airtime to operate properly," said Keerti Melkote, Aruba's co-founder and chief technology officer. "The proof is in the tests, and the results validate that our centrally-managed WLAN architecture and ARM 2.0 infrastructure-based controls make Wi-Fi clients -- and the applications they're running -- perform at their peak."
The Farpoint Group white paper is available for downloading from Aruba's Web site at www.arubanetworks.com/arm2.0 . ARM 2.0 software has been undergoing extensive field tests and will ship in the fourth quarter of 2008. The upgrade is available at no cost to Aruba customers under a current Aruba support agreement.
