Safety, Rapid Commissioning, Control System Migration and Mobile Operations Top IPS Ticket at ISA EXPO 2008
Market Wire, October, 2008
Invensys Process Systems (IPS), a global technology, software and consulting leader, will showcase its full line of automation and instrumentation solutions at the ISA EXPO 2008, October 14 through 16, in Houston, Texas. The company will demonstrate solutions for instrument safety, rapid commissioning, control system migration and mobile computing, as well as continue its celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Foxboro brand. Additionally, Dr. Peter Martin, IPS Vice President of Strategic Ventures, will demonstrate the benefits and value of process automation at an open conference session.
"From the introduction of the first multiple pen temperature recorder in 1909 to the advanced safety, configuration and communications solutions we are showing at this year's ISA EXPO, IPS has been a leading innovator in delivering reliable, high-performance automation and instrumentation to the process industries," said Steve Blair, President of IPS North America. "We continue to help our clients deliver value to their customers, while adding more functionality and integration to our offerings, and are pleased to be showcasing our latest solutions."
Among the solutions that IPS will be demonstrating are new SIL 2 safety and dual seal certified transmitters; an award-winning Field Device Manager (FDM) that supports both FDT and EDDL standards; a control system migration solution that enables replacement of mainstream legacy control systems without the expense of rewiring and downtime; and wireless connectivity to control systems via mobile handheld computers.
-- Safety solutions: IPS will unveil its line of newly certified SIL 2
TÜV Rheinland pressure transmitters, which includes HART versions of five
of the most popular Foxboro® transmitters. These transmitters have a
meantime-between-failure (MBTF) rate that exceeds 200 years, more than 50
years higher than the claims of the closest competitor. IPS will also show
its I/A Series® differential, gauge and absolute pressure transmitters
that have achieved Canada's new dual seal certification. Attendees can see
these at Sensors Fair Booth 2106 or contact patrick.prunty@ips.invensys.com
to arrange a meeting.
-- Rapid commissioning: IPS controls experts will demonstrate the award-
winning Foxboro Field Device Manager (FDM), which can reduce commissioning
time by as much as 40 percent. The FDM software is the only device
available that supports both the Field Device Toolkit (FDT) and Electronic
Device Description Language (EDDL) standards. IPS is demonstrating these
solutions at the FDT Technology Booth 1222 and EDDL Booth 1122, as well as
its own Booth 1234, located in the ISA Bus Station Pavilion. Contact
garry.cusick@ips.invensys.com for an appointment.
-- Control system migration: Also at the ISA Bus Station Pavilion is the
unique IPS Plug-in Migration solution, which dramatically reduces cost of
control system migration by eliminating the need for rewiring and
minimizing downtime significantly. This is because IPS builds its control
system I/O functionality into convenient form-fit, one-for-one replacements
for the I/O boards of other mainstream control systems such as the TDC
2000, TDC 3000, Taylor MOD300, Bailey Infi 90 and Network 90, PROVOX, Moore
APAC and WDPF controls. Attendees can see a migration cabinet at Booth 1234
or contact garry.cusick@ips.invensys.com to set up an appointment.
-- Mobile operations: Building on the company's recently announced
partnership with Motorola; IPS Global Consulting specialists will
demonstrate a mobile operator solution that can pass field device data
wirelessly to a control system using a Motorola Handheld computer within a
Wonderware IntelaTrac® enterprise software environment. Attendees can see
a demonstration by visiting the IPS Bus Station Pavilion Booth 1234 or
contacting hesh.kagan@ips.invensys.com for an appointment. Also, on October
15 at 10 a.m. in room 206, IPS Managing Consultant Hesh Kagan will present
as part of the Wireless Standards Landscape panel.
100 years of Innovation
IPS will continue its celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the Foxboro brand, with an exhibit of instrumentation dating from 1908. Foxboro instrumentation and control systems are now part of the IPS portfolio, which also includes Triconex critical safety systems, SimSci-Esscor simulation software, and Avantis operations management software. Historical instruments will be exhibited at IPS Sensors Fair Booth 2106 in the instrument pavilion.
ISA will also honor two former IPS employees for their contributions to process automation. F. Greg Shinskey will receive a "Life Achievement Award" and Harold L. Wade will receive the "Donald P. Eckman Education Award."
Also Dr. Peter Martin, who figures significantly in recent IPS innovation, will present a paper, The Benefits and Value of Process Automation, on Wednesday, October 15, at 2 p.m., in Conference Room 2008 of the Reliant Center.
