EADS North America Appoints Trent Lott to Its Board of Directors
Market Wire, October, 2008
EADS North America today announced the appointment of the Honorable Trent Lott to the company's Board of Directors.
Lott is the former U.S. Senate Majority Leader from the state of Mississippi who also served in the House of Representatives.
"Trent Lott brings unparalleled experience and perspective to the EADS North America Board of Directors following a distinguished career of public service," said EADS North America Chairman and CEO Ralph D. Crosby, Jr. "He will provide invaluable expertise as our company expands its presence in the U.S. defense and homeland security sectors."
Lott held numerous leadership positions in both the Senate and House of Representatives, including Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, Senate Minority Whip and House Minority Whip. He was the first person to have served as whip in both houses of Congress.
During his 16 years in the House of Representatives and 19 years in the Senate, Lott was a driving force behind the evolution of America's military. As Senate Majority Leader, Lott placed a high priority on meeting the needs of America's warfighter. He led the effort to increase procurement accounts when needed, as well as supporting Secretaries of Defense regardless of political affiliation.
Lott was instrumental in introducing legislation that strengthened the U.S. armed forces by bolstering recruitment, retention and overall readiness. In 1998, he headed the effort to implement the first pay raise for military men and women in a decade, and his leadership resulted in the development of a new generation of Navy vessels to maintain America's pre-eminence at sea.
As Senate Majority Leader, Lott demonstrated a record of working across the aisle in a bipartisan way to ensure that America's defense interests were met. He was instrumental in breaking the partisan logjam on numerous strategic forces issues, including missile defense programs. Without his leadership in working with the President, ratification of the Chemical Weapons Convention would not have been possible. Lott recognized the importance of strengthening NATO in post-Soviet Eastern Europe. In 1988 he lead a Senate delegation to visit the leaders of Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, and he subsequently spearheaded the Senate's ratification of NATO's expansion to these nations.
