Distributed Traffic Capture System(TM) Essential to Proactive Network Control, Says Aberdeen Group Study
Market Wire, October, 2008
In a new report, the Aberdeen Group, a leading market analyst firm, called a Distributed Traffic Capture System essential to the proactive control of computer networks.
According to "The Value of Network and Application Visibility," published September 30, the organizations most likely to prevent application performance issues from impacting end users were more than four times more likely to have deployed a Distributed Traffic Capture System as part of network monitoring than those which had not done so.
"Being unable to identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks before applications are rolled out on the network is the top obstacle for application performance," said Bojan Simic, Aberdeen research analyst and the study's author. "The solution is visibility into network performance beyond that available with network monitoring hardware. A Distributed Traffic Capture System is indispensable to visibility."
"Aberdeen's research with enterprises into how they are using network monitoring and performance data validates the idea of a Distributed Traffic Capture System architected to the network," said Terence M. Breslin, VSS Monitoring's CEO. "You can't monitor what you can't see. A Distributed Traffic Capture System can provide monitoring devices with total visibility into even the largest networks, permitting a level of control heretofore unobtainable."
Reduced labor costs is another benefit of using a Distributed Traffic Capture System according to the study, with best-in-class organizations surveyed spending almost 60% less in labor costs to manage network and application performance compared to all other organizations ($146 per user compared to $253 per user annually).
The report details best practices for maximizing network and application performance via sets of capabilities and their enabling technologies. It relates these to actual percentage improvements for metrics such as application availability and success in preventing issues from affecting end users. The report puts these findings into perspective with previous research and prescribes specific actions organizations can take to attain measurable performance improvements.
Aberdeen Group surveyed more than 160 organizations worldwide via an online survey and in-depth telephone interviews. Industries participating include telecommunications, finance, high technology and government.
