SpeakSoft, Inc. Announces New CEO

SpeakSoft, Inc., a leading voice application software company, has announced the appointment of voice industry veteran Dr. Caroline Henton as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Dr. Henton joins SpeakSoft with over fifteen years of speech and business expertise. She comes to SpeakSoft directly from her own highly successful consulting firm. Since 2001, as Founder and CTO of Talknowledgy.com, Dr. Henton has consulted in speech synthesis, acoustic phonetics, linguistics, localization, and VUI design for: Apple, Claris, Digital Equipment Corp., Elan Speech, Internet Speech, Interval Research, Lexicon Naming, Microsoft/Tellme, PulsePoint (Unisys), Sun Microsystems, Telisma, VCS/Philips, General Magic, NeoSpeech and SpeakSoft.

Prior to her founding her own firm, Dr. Henton led the Speech and Language Development team at Tellme Networks, where her responsibilities included multilingual text-to-speech synthesis, dictionary and grammar design, directing phonetic and orthographic transcription, and natural language research and integration into a voice user interface.

Dr. Henton joined Apple Computer in 1990, to produce the highest quality synthetic speech available on all Apple platforms. In the past 15 years she has been Director of Language Development for Voice Processing Corp., Director of Linguistics for DECtalk, and Vice President of Strategic Technology at Fonix.

Dr. Caroline Henton received her M. Phil. in Linguistics and her Doctorate in Acoustic Phonetics from the University of Oxford. Dr. Henton has written more than 65 technical, research and populist publications, and has been awarded five patents. Concurrently, Dr. Henton is a Visiting Professor in Linguistics at the University of California Santa Cruz, and a member of the Editorial Board for Speech Technology magazine.
