Hepburn Capital Management Launches Flagship Mutual Fund -- The Kids Fund(R) (Ticker: KIDSX)
Market Wire, November, 2008
Hepburn Capital Management LLC, a Registered Investment Advisor, announced today the launch of its first open-end mutual fund, available to the public, The Kids Fund® (Ticker: KIDSX). The Fund is designed to be a tool for parents seeking to educate their children on the virtues of investing by allowing them to "take ownership" in companies that they already know and love -- many of which provide products affecting their daily lives.
"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce the first mutual fund catering specifically to children and the companies that cater to their demographic," said Will Hepburn, President and Chief Investment Officer of Hepburn Capital Management and portfolio manager of The Kids Fund. The youth savings segment of the investment industry is a more than $100 billion market and is currently dominated by bank savings accounts and US Government Savings Bonds. "We hope that this fund will become an important tool for parents and grandparents who want to teach their children about the fundamentals of investing."
The core holdings of the Fund will be equities of companies whose products appeal to children and young adults and are intended to be held long term, such as Foot Locker, Smucker's, Apple and Wendy's. The companies in the Fund's core list of holdings will also undergo a social screening process so as to eliminate companies that receive significant revenues from tobacco or alcohol, weapons or gaming. The Fund will be managed with a low-risk style designed to deliver consistent returns while pursuing growth of capital.
"Our hope is to engage children in the investing process from a young age, setting them up with an understanding of the importance of saving for, and investing in, their future," added Hepburn. "We want to make this a fun experience for both the children and their parents. Young investors can look at the shoes that they are wearing, or the breakfast that they are eating, and say, 'I own a part of that!'" The Kids Fund website, www.TheKidsFund.com , has tools and educational resources for both young savers and their parents that create a practical learning experience.
Kids Fund accounts will have a minimum initial investment of $1,000. To obtain a prospectus for The Kids Fund, call 1-888-543-7879 or visit www.TheKidsFund.com/ .
