Egenera Launches Dell / PAN System
Market Wire, December, 2008
Egenera, Inc. today announced that the Dell(TM) / PAN System designed by Egenera® is now available for shipment from Dell, Inc. in North America. Built on proven Dell servers, industry-leading storage and standard hypervisor technologies, the Dell / PAN System is factory-integrated and delivered as a complete, turn-key solution. The Dell / PAN System virtualizes and pools data center resources, including SANs and networks, into scalable, changeable assets. This delivers agility and ensures high-availability of mission critical services, creating a more cost-efficient data center. Dell and Egenera maintain an OEM relationship aimed at helping customers focus on their strategic business priorities and simplify IT by delivering excellence in virtualized infrastructure -- from physical and virtual server performance and storage interoperability, to complete dynamic data center management.
The Dell / PAN System by Egenera is a highly available and flexible computing platform that eliminates the need to dedicate servers to applications. Instead, the Dell / PAN System creates a processing area network (PAN) that connects and centrally manages multiple Dell PowerEdge servers together with standard network and storage resources. The Dell / PAN System delivers rapid server provisioning and re-deployment in minutes, plus high availability and site recovery at lower total cost than competitive offerings. The fully-integrated solution enables customers to measurably simplify operations by creating a single resource pool and management tool for both physical and virtual servers, resulting in rapid response to organizational changes and heightened business agility.
Unified Virtualization Management through PAN Manager Software
The Dell / PAN System is based on PAN Manager® software by Egenera®, a proven solution for unified virtual and physical data center infrastructure management. Going beyond consolidation benefits of server virtualization technologies, Dell and Egenera offer a production-ready virtualization solution that unifies physical and virtual servers, storage and network management to quickly and easily make every data center a reliable dynamic data center.
The Dell / PAN System delivers a reliable dynamic data center environment by enabling:
-- A single interface for managing both physical and virtual servers;
-- Consolidation of servers and I/O connectivity;
-- Rapid provisioning and reconfiguration of physical and virtual
servers;
-- Automated load balancing;
-- Rapid and guaranteed failover of servers; and
-- Verifiable disaster recovery for multiple data centers.
"At Dell we're focused on helping our customers simplify and save in their IT environments," said Rick Becker, vice president of Software and Solutions, Dell Product Group. "The Dell / PAN System is a cost-effective solution that makes it easier for enterprises to manage their physical and virtual servers, network and storage assets so they can quickly adapt to changing computing needs and respond to business requirements."
"Less than a year ago we announced our intention to bring PAN Manager software to third party hardware platforms and today's announcement is another key milestone," said Mike Thompson, president and CEO of Egenera. "PAN Manager is now available across multiple platforms, ensuring that our customers have choice and flexibility in how they build their reliable dynamic data centers, without compromise on quality and results. Moving forward, Egenera will continue to invest in this unique software opportunity, bringing our trusted and proven solutions to an ever wider customer base." PAN Manager Software is trusted by many of the largest and most complex organizations across the globe as the foundation for a reliable dynamic data center. Now available from Dell, PAN Manager is based on open industry standards and supports popular hypervisors, storage area networks (SAN) and server platforms.
