Con-way's Jacquelyn Barretta Named One of Computerworld's Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2009

Market Wire, December, 2008

Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW) today announced that its chief information officer, Jacquelyn Barretta, has been selected as one of the Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2009 by IDG's Computerworld. The list honors the 100 IT executives who have led their organizations by mentoring and motivating employees, envisioning innovative solutions to business challenges and effectively managing and executing IT strategies.

"The 2009 Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leaders, more than ever before, are making a clean break with traditional IT strategies and roles and creating altogether new ones," said Scot Finnie, editor in chief, Computerworld. "The shell-shocked economy and changing forces in the technology environment are spurring these smart, agile IT leaders to seize new opportunities. We applaud them for their readiness to try on new roles, take charge of environmental initiatives and bring consumer-styled technologies into their corporations."

Premier 100 honorees were selected from over 1,000 nominees representing companies across all industries, as well as government and educational organizations. Nominees were measured against Computerworld's IT Leadership Index, a set of characteristics that describe executives who guide the effective use of IT in their organizations, and evaluated by the editors and a panel of outside judges. The candidates were also interviewed about a range of topics including their backgrounds, work experiences, special accomplishments and leadership styles.

"Jackie Barretta clearly demonstrates the talent and vision exemplified by the elite ranks of Computerworld's Premier 100," said Stephen Bruffett, Con-way's chief financial officer and executive sponsor of the company's IT group. "She has guided Con-way's information technology team through challenging times while delivering impressive accomplishments for the business. This is well-deserved recognition of her leadership and our IT team's achievements."

One notable recent achievement of Barretta and her IT team was the successful integration of the internally developed Step Saver Web-based interactive software application for Con-way Freight. That automation of previously manual dock planning and configuration tasks improved operational efficiency, freeing up valuable time for dock coordinators and saving $3 million annually. Those efficiencies are helping Con-way Freight continue to deliver its industry-leading performance for on-time delivery, exception-free service and fast transit times -- key attributes of customer satisfaction in the freight transportation industry.

The complete class of 2009 Premier 100 honorees is available at www.computerworld.com/09/p100 and in the Dec. 8, 2008, issue of Computerworld.
