HudBay Schedules Meeting of Shareholders for March 31, 2009

The Board of Directors of HudBay Minerals Inc. (TSX: HBM) ("HudBay" or the "Company") has called a Special Meeting of the Shareholders of the Company to be held on March 31, 2009 (the "Meeting"). The Meeting has been called in response to a requisition made pursuant to Section 143 of the Canada Business Corporations Act. The Meeting has been requisitioned for the purpose of removing the current Board of Directors of HudBay and electing a slate of directors to be proposed by the requisitionist. At this time, an alternative slate of directors has not been proposed by the requisitionist.
