Fluxys Utilises Dexterra for Customised Mobility Solution for Pipeline Construction and Maintenance
Market Wire, January, 2009
Dexterra, Inc. , the business mobility company, today announced that Fluxys , the independent natural gas transport company, has deployed its Dexterra Concert mobility platform to improve its field operations management and share information more quickly between business units.
The Dexterra deployment addresses several mobility needs within the Belgian-based gas transport company. Firstly, it standardises and improves the delivery of data fed back by field workers into its SAP Plans & Maintenance system. At the same time it enables the construction business unit to share information with its own field workers, optimising the quality of their follow up and responsiveness during the construction projects.

While Fluxys had an existing mobile solution for conducting pipe inspections, the company relied upon paper-based processes for basic maintenance tasks such as providing feedback, order placements, or providing job descriptions to field workers. Recognising the need to automate these processes and standardise the information being fed back to SAP, Fluxys implemented a mobile solution capable of meeting its multiple needs.
"We selected Dexterra's mobility platform based on its ability to easily integrate with different backend systems as well as its .NET integration capabilities, simplifying the task of designing the application itself," said Rudy Putteman, ICT, responsible for the mobility projects at Fluxys.
The Fluxys solution consists of two customised mobile applications deployed on Panasonic CF19 devices. These are Mobile Inspection and Maintenance Application (MIMA), rolled out across eight regions, and Site Application Mobile Solutions (SAMOS). Final phases of both deployments were completed in December 2008.
"Mobility solutions, designed correctly and using the right technology, have the potential to provide rapid return-on-investment and a longer life-span while meeting the increasingly complex requirements to support changes in processes, devices and back-office system integration," said Rikke Helms, managing director of EMEA for Dexterra. "Hence it's no surprise that market leaders such as Fluxys are now taking advantage of state-of-the-art mobile platforms, that can support numerous customised applications, in order to deliver across-the-board improvements and ensure that all staff can fulfil tasks quicker and more effectively."
