Google Goes Blogging
Market Wire, January, 2009
Google is showing itself to have a large appetite for buyouts and acquisitional targeting in the world of online blogging networks known as the Blogosphere. It has concluded two significant buyouts in this sector by acquiring both Blogger Corp. the owners of a sophisticated blog publishing tool thereby allowing Google users to create and maintain their personal or corporate blog directly through Google's site and TNC TextCube the Korean blogging network. Through its purchase of these two companies Google now provides its own ever expanding source of content beyond that which Microsoft or Yahoo can hope to offer leveraging a built-in growing set of users (and readers) to nurture its very own source of increased ad revenues. This is a smart move on Google's part as their advertising network AdWords truly goes hand in hand with blogging both personal and commercial.
Google has now turned its attention and deep pockets onto the European blogging network scene. They recently acquired from Rambler Media, ZAO BEGUN the Russian advertising and blogging platform for $140 million dollars. As the world of online advertising and blogging expands expect to see many more mergers and acquisitions in the industry. And as other companies become aware of Google's advances so they to will jump in before it's too late. A good example of this is CBS purchasing CNET for $1.8 billion dollars. CBS is really trying hard to grab a big share of the online blogging advertising market. The President of CBS said "By taking over CNET we will have a greater chance to increase our online visibility and become a major player in the Blogosphere".
Bloggerwave
The IQ Division subsidiary http://www.Bloggerwave.com has entered a number of strategic alliances with several important European agencies; this will make Bloggerwave the largest commercial blogging company in Europe and a prime acquisition target for the likes of Google. Many companies in Europe have been slow to understand the powerful viral effect of commercial blogging but in the last 12 months blog advertising has taken off in Europe. This is mainly due to the successful marketing of this strategy by Bloggerwave and the many agencies like Saatchi and Saatchi who use their services. The revenues from blog advertising in Europe look set to exceed 1 billion euros by 2010.
New Campaigns
IQ Division announced in January how it's spreading its wings outside of Europe and is implementing blogging campaigns in China, Asia, Canada and the US for a number of new high profile clients that include: Joost, StrictlyHealth.com, agoodcause.com , yesextender.com, Galleon PLC, BBDO, Buzzanova and Futurelab. Revenues from its CPV (cost per view) and PPC (pay per click) campaigns have far exceeded projections and Q2 2009 looks to exceed projections by 37%.
A company spokesperson says "we can definitely see in these turbulent times that many companies are increasing their online marketing spend through the savings they have made by cutting back on more traditional offline marketing such as TV and print media. Great for us....... our incomes have increased dramatically. Carlsberg for example have teamed up with us recently after many months of reviewing their online presence".
