NVCA Partners With StartUpHire to Capture Jobs Data

Market Wire, May, 2009

The National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) today announced its partnership with the job search engine StartUpHire , to collect data on venture-backed job openings in the United States. Launched in January 2009 as a service to benefit the start-up community, StartUpHire currently lists more than 10,000 jobs at more than 2,500 companies that are backed by venture capital firms. The NVCA plans to use data from StartUpHire to track ongoing employment trends and chart the contribution of these emerging growth companies to economic recovery and new job creation.

"The start-up community is actively hiring bright and ambitious people across the country," said Mark Heesen, president of the NVCA. "By posting these jobs in a single place, StartUpHire is showcasing the vast array of high quality jobs available at venture-backed companies and making these unique opportunities available and accessible to a broader audience."

StartUpHire was created by professionals involved in the venture ecosystem. It is not affiliated with any particular venture firm and is designed to benefit the entire industry. There is no cost to use the website or post jobs . Employer participation is restricted to venture-backed companies that are privately held. Job candidates may search for listings by geography, functional area, job title, investment stage or venture capital investors. The NVCA is encouraging its members and their portfolio companies to post job opportunities on the website as they become available.

A snap shot of the jobs listed on StartUpHire on May 15, 2009, showed 31 percent of the jobs are in the software industry, 18 percent in IT services, and eight percent in business products and services. California hosts 37 percent of the jobs listed followed by the Mid-Atlantic region at 15 percent and Massachusetts at 10 percent.

"There has never been a better time for a service that connects job seekers to high growth companies that need exceptional talent," concluded Heesen. "Over the last four decades, millions of jobs have been created at companies that, at one time, were small start-ups. Venture-backed companies will continue to grow and hire as they have always done and are committed to being an important contributor to economic recovery."

"We created StartUpHire to fill a critical gap in the industry -- matching talented people to open positions which are often difficult to identify," said Steve Fredrick, co-founder of StartUpHire and a general partner with Grotech Ventures. "To maximize the impact, we've made this service free, easy to use and able to leverage the brands of each investor to benefit their portfolio companies."
