Mediplay and AAO-HNS Partner to Launch Network Assisting Physicians With Point-of-Care Patient Education

Market Wire, June, 2009

Mediplay, Inc. and the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) today announced a partnership designed to improve physicians' ability to communicate key information to their patients. The two organizations have launched the AAO-HNS/Mediplay network, an on-demand video network available at the point-of-care. This partnership enables the network to be installed for members of the AAO-HNS at a special rate.

Every day, patients and their families spend hours in waiting and exam rooms, time that could be better spent with communications that address patient needs and expectations. The AAO-HNS/Mediplay network is designed specifically for otolaryngologists and surgeons to address this challenge with a video display system that enables direct communications with patients and visitors. It is typically used to proactively engage patients with answers to common questions and prepare them for medical care.

According to Tim Boyd, president and chief operating officer of Mediplay, physician groups of all sizes have seen the benefits of thoughtful patient communications. "We have a current customer base of physician groups across the country seeing significant revenue growth using our network," said Boyd.

Physicians' practices benefit from the network, because content is designed specifically for their patients," said Boyd. "Our partnership with AAO-HNS enables us to work closely with the specialty's leading organization to offer a cost-effective patient education platform that broadens their reach."

Mediplay has worked in cooperation with the AAO-HNS to feature an extensive library of content from the organization's peer-reviewed body of knowledge. Subscribers to the network can access this information and personalize their communications within exam and waiting rooms. This gives doctors easy access to content for patient education, procedural instructions and administrative information.

"This partnership with Mediplay aligns with our goal of introducing valuable content to our member base so they can run a more effective and patient-centered practice," said AAO-HNS Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer David R. Nielsen, M.D. "This network is Internet-based and provides physicians and caregivers with critical information and content delivered via video screen installed at the point-of-care."
