Door-to-Drapes Customization: Four Leading Hotels Select Control4 to Personalize Guest Experience, Bolster Green Initiatives With Automation
Market Wire, June, 2009
Control4®, a leader in affordable, IP-based home control and entertainment systems, has signed four leading hotels and resorts to its customer roster, allowing these properties to provide a personalized guest experience while maximizing their green initiatives in the process. CityCenter Las Vegas, Montage Beverly Hills, Rosewood Sand Hill and Trump SoHo New York will use Control4® Suite Systems' automation technology, a complete door-to-drapes operating system and platform for the modern hotel room that allows guests to easily control lighting, room temperature, TVs, music, drapes and concierge services with a single remote.
"Consumers, who are increasingly tech-savvy, are looking for a unique guest experience when they visit hotels and resorts," said Bill Ablondi, director of home systems research for Parks Associates. "That's why it makes good business sense for the hospitality industry to consider incorporating not only entertainment system automation, but temperature and lighting controls within the guest experience."
Control4 entered the hospitality market in June 2008 with the release of its Suite Systems, a specialized version of its customer-proven home automation and control technology. In addition to providing one-remote control for current hotel guests, the system can automatically put a room into unoccupied status, turning down or off the heating/cooling system, lights, and other electronics.
"Given our current economic environment, conservation -- financial, differentiating services, and 'green'/energy -- is top of mind for hoteliers," said Will West, chief executive officer of Control4. "Control4 provides an efficient way to conserve resources and assist with green-related certification initiatives, by turning off air conditioning and lights in vacant rooms. And, we allow hotel owners to differentiate and personalize the guest experience, even enabling guests to pre-set their 'waking experience' with custom music and lighting scenarios. The guest experience can be personalized from check-in until check-out."
CityCenter Las Vegas, Montage Beverly Hills, Rosewood Sand Hill and Trump SoHo are installing Control4's customized automation solutions to transform the in-room experience, differentiating themselves by providing a personalized guest experience while conserving energy in the process:
CityCenter Las Vegas, opening in late 2009, is an unprecedented urban metropolis on 67 acres on the Las Vegas Strip. The development features ARIA, a stunning 4,004-room gaming resort; Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas; Vdara Hotel & Spa; Veer Towers; and The Harmon Hotel.
"When we enlisted the help of Control4 for ARIA, Mandarin Oriental, and The Harmon Hotel, we envisioned developing a 'personalized automation' experience for each guest staying in every room," said Scot Campbell, chief information officer for MGM MIRAGE INC. "When guests open the door to their rooms, the room basically welcomes them. The lights will gradually come on and the drapes will open to spectacular views of the city or mountains. Using one simple remote, guests can control lighting levels, room temperature, music, wake-up calls and more. Also, the Control4® Suite System solutions' green settings allow guests to voluntarily 'green their stay,' selecting their preferences for light level, room temperature and the frequency of linen changes."
Montage Beverly Hills, "where modern-day indulgence meets sustainability," is a beautiful nine-story hotel in Beverly Hills' legendary Golden Triangle. The hotel, designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival Style, features more than 200 guest rooms, a 5,000-square foot ballroom, 20,000 square-foot spa, and a 70-person rooftop Conservatory Dining Room.
The Control4 implementation at Montage Beverly Hills includes lighting control, advanced temperature control, effortless entertainment and remote controlled privacy settings and green mode selection, all of which can be customized for each guest.
The newly-opened Rosewood Sand Hill, located in California's Silicon Valley, melds the rich heritage of relaxed California Ranch architecture with fragrant gardens and stunning views of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Looking for effortless entertainment as well as energy savings, Rosewood Sand Hill turned to Control4 dealer Sean Toland. Together, they chose the Control4® Suite Systems for its ability to give guests one platform for controlling TV and video content, as well as automated room control. Using a single, handheld remote and the Control4® onscreen high-definition user interface, guests can easily select TV stations, the integrated Tangerine Global for IPTV Video-on-Demand content, music, as well as lights in the room.
Also, Control4® Suite Systems provides Rosewood Sand Hill's 125 rooms with an automatic energy conservation tool. Each guest room features smart lighting that can automatically turn off all lights in the room upon guest checkout. When a guest checks into a room, the lights can automatically go on, so the room is ready and welcoming for the new guest. In addition, hotel staff can set a maximum lighting threshold for guest rooms, dramatically reducing energy consumption without guests even noticing.
