Media Advisory: Canadian Navy to Get New Queen's Colour at Public Event Saturday

The Canadian Navy will receive a replacement Queen's Colour on Saturday June 27th, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Garrison Grounds near the Halifax Citadel during a formal parade featuring the finest of naval traditions and presided over by Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, the Queen's representative.
Time: Saturday June 27th at 10 a.m. This marks the formal beginning of the ceremony; in order to get desirable vantage points it is recommended that members of the media and the public be in place before 9:15 a.m.
Location: Halifax Garrison Grounds; located at the southwest corner of Citadel Hill near Sackville St and Bell Road.
The event is free. People of all ages are most welcome to join in celebrating the rich naval history of our country. The event is formally entitled the "Consecration and Presentation of the Queen's Colour" and it will be a grand spectacle of pageantry, naval traditions and music.
During the ceremony, a Royal Canadian Artillery Saluting Troop will fire a 21-gun Royal Salute from the ramparts of Citadel Hill and Canadian Forces aircraft will fly overhead.
