Newly Launched Skilled Gaming Site Deploys Quova's IP Geolocation to Restrict Illegal Bettors
Market Wire, February, 2010
Quova, Inc. , the leading provider of IP geolocation data services, today announced that the newly released SEGA Games Limited sites, www.SEGACasino.com and www.SEGAPoker.com, are using Quova's IP geolocation data to prohibit users located in unregulated countries and territories. Users in restricted regions like the US will be unable to access the above SEGA sites. To comply with government regulations, SEGA Games uses Quova to scan each visitor to determine the geographic location of their Internet connection. Built-in logic rules immediately detect the location and trigger the application to serve the user the appropriate Web page customized with games and products that meet the laws in their country or state.
Both www.SEGAPoker.com and www.SEGACasino.com give players the fun and excitement of the live gaming experience. SEGACasino.com will feature an all-inclusive suite of gaming products including Blackjack, Roulette and Texas Hold 'em, as well as customized SEGA branded Slots. In addition, when users log in at SEGAPoker.com they will find a live multiplayer poker room with head-to-head and "tournament" play with up to 30,000 concurrent players.
A SEGA Games Spokesperson said: "We were impressed by Quova's outstanding reputation in the online gaming sphere and its depth of accuracy. By using Quova we can ensure that geographical-based content restrictions are in place, thereby making sure that we comply with the regulatory requirements of various jurisdictions."
By simply knowing the IP address of an incoming user, Quova can not only identify their geographic location, but can also decipher details such as connection method, i.e. DSL or Dial-up, and highlight whether the user is accessing the site via a proxy server. Any suspicious IP credentials can be flagged and analyzed and the visitor permitted or denied access depending on the severity of the threat.
SEGA Games LTD will also be using Quova's IP geolocation data to localize Web content that will be appropriate to the territory of the online gamer. In the future, the company hopes to advance its use of the data to display relevant promotions and streamline its online sales process enabling them to more efficiently introduce relevant deals to new and existing customers worldwide.
"The development of the online gaming industry has resulted in a growing demand for accurate IP address data," said Steve Sawyer, VP of Business Development Worldwide at Quova. "This is a very tightly regulated sphere and having a transparent view of a customer's location is essential to ensure compliance in today's virtual world. We are extremely excited to be working with a company with a reputation and history such as SEGA's."
