Childhood Education, Spring 2006 by Holmes, Janette

Dublin, Anne BOBBIE ROSENFELD: The Olympian Who Could Do Everything. ISBN 1-896764-82-7. Toronto, ON: Second Story Press, 2004. 148 pp. $14.95. This is a compelling story of Bobbie Rosenfeld, who grew up in Barrie, Ontario, during the early 1900s. Dublin takes the reader through Bobbie's journey to the 1928 Olympics, where she competes for the Canadian track and field team. The historic narratives relate Bobbie's influence in sports until her retirement from the Globe and Mail as a sportswriter, in 1957. This book is a tribute to the legacy Bobbie Rosenfeld leaves today, having achieved many firsts in women's sports. Ages 9 and up. Reviewed by Janette Holmes, York University, Toronto
