NEA Today, Sep 1998 by Fischer, Bill
If you've scanned this first issue, you've already seen that NEA Today's basic format looks essentially the same as last year's.
And that's intentional. You've told us-in letters, E-mails, and our annual reader survey-that NEA Today's current format suits your needs and interests. In our latest readership poll, some 70 percent of you indicated that NEA Today helps you do a better job teaching kids.
That's heartening feedback, but we're aiming to make NEA Today even more useful for you this year.
Our biggest change is designed to better address the challenges faced by NEA education support members -paraprofessionals, bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers, and all other support staff-as they work to help students succeed.
Starting with this issue, all education support members will be receiving a special NEA Today fourpage insert that will focus on helping ESP members on the job, with everything from tips on training opportunities to ideas on useful new Web sites.
We've also redesigned several sections of NEA Today received by all NEA preK-12 members.
Our Bits & Bytes pages, for instance, will continue to feature educators who are using technology innovatively, but we've also added more specific suggestions on exciting cyber opportunities you can build right into your instructional planning.
Our Money pages sport a new look, too. We've added two new columns. One offers financial advice to young NEA members just starting out. The other addresses the concerns of veteran educators.
Finally, you may have noticed, right at the bottom of our pages, a small icon for NEA Today Online, our special new Web site devoted to helping you make the most of your NEA Today reading experience.
You'll find in NEA Today Online all sorts of information that adds depth and timeliness to our NEA Today print coverage. Check us out online. We think you'll like what you see!
