Time Warner Winners

Time Warner Cable's annual prizes for outstanding classroom work, the National Teacher Awards, were given in June.

A crystal apple sculpture, $1,000, and a trip to the award ceremony in Washington, D.C., went to the winning teachers, two dozen of whom are NEA members.

They are:

Lecanto Primary, Tampa, Florida: Linda Ferrara, Karen Stofcheck, and Bianca Curtis.

Milwee Middle, Longwood, Florida: Esther Ott, Pam Sabia, Elaine O'Neal, Carol Unterreiner, Nancy Martin, and Kathleen James.

East Somerville Community School, Somerville, Massachusetts: Helen Mooney, Brenda McDonnell, and Deborah Pacino.

Tippecanoe Elementary School for the Humanities, Milwaukee, Wisconsin: Mary Widen and Mary Jakubiak.

North Rowan Middle School, Charlotte, North Carolina: Kathleen McCabe, Christine Stamper, and Mitchell Bennett.

Detention Center School, Milwaukee, Wisconsin: Gail Salentine and Karen Olson.

Zippel Elementary, Presque Isle, Maine: Jennifer York. Walker International Middle, Milwaukee, Wisconsin: Sandra Ruesink.

Winter Hill Community School, Somerville, Massachusetts: Linda Walsh and Nancy Mulligan. Parsons High, Parsons, Kansas: Linda Potter. AAUW Fellows

Ten of the public school teachers selected as Teacher Fellows by the American Association of University Women are NEA members.

The project proposals submitted by this year's fellows include motherdaughter math classes, personal Web page design classes, and a schoolbased environmental center.

The NEA members receiving fellowships this year are: Lisa Mesple from Boulder, Colorado; Patricia Colburn from Caro, Michigan; Joan Priddy from Vicksburg, Mississippi; Loretta Buddendeck from Dayton, Ohio; Susan Decker from Hot Springs South Dakota; Patty Flowers from Humboldt, Tennessee; Andrea Cantu from Port Aransas, Texas; Meshelle Smith from Ogden, Utah; and Carolyn Ealy and Carol Reiners from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
