Editors note
NEA Today, Sep 1999 by Fischer, Bill
As you've probably noticed by now, NEA Today has a new lookstarting with the new nameplate on the cover and continuing right on through the entire issue. We've made a variety of changes-and additions-that we think will make NEA Today a more valuable publication for you.
What we haven't changed are the NEA Today features that you've told us are most important to you. You'll find all your favorite features inside this issue, only sometimes in a different location.
Our Debate page, for instance, has moved from the back of the magazine to page 11. This will give us a chance to directly relate each Debate to our cover story.
Another change: We've expanded our contents page from one page to two, a step designed to make it easier for you to identify the articles that speak directly to your needs.
With the expanded contents on pages 2 and 3, we've shifted NEA President Bob Chase's column to page 5 and coupled it with our letters section to create a vibrant forum where NEA members can explore and exchange perspectives.
Our News section, beginning on page 14. has also undergone a major facelift. The goal: to keep you up-to-date on the issues-like vouchers and school safety-that face NEA members around the nation.
The NEA Today Learning section now begins on page 24, and we've added several new features, including a page devoted to reading and a twopage On the Team spread that spotlights the work of NEA's education support members.
You'll find plenty of other coverage on support staff inside these pages. We'll be working hard to help teachers and support staff work together for quality schools.
