Cooking it up at camp
NEA Today, May 2002
Name: Rosemarie Wood
Job Title: Manager/Head Cook, Sedgwick Elementary School, Sedgwick, Maine
What I Do In My Job: I do it all, everything, because we're a small school. I do the paper work, the menu planning, and the cooking.
The Most Rewarding Part of My Job. The kids, working with the kids. We try to do fun things with them and that's why I stay.
My Favorite Pastime: In the winter time I like to snowmobile. In the summer I like the water and going on picnics at our local island. I do a lot of arts and crafts. I'm taking a stained glass class and I knit. I also enjoy spending time with my son and daughter.
How I've Helped My Association:
I'm the treasurer of our Association, and I've been a negotiator for the last 10 years.
My Community Involvement Includes: The DARE program is one of my babies. We volunteer a lot and try to raise money. We've put on a basketball tournament for the grammar school kids. We've done dances for the graduates of the program and stuff like that. We'll hold a big graduation party where the kids can go swimming, have pizza, and play games.
In June, after school gets out, we have an overnight camp for the kids.who have gone through the program. We have between 150 and 180 kids for a week.
I love it. I've done that for eight or nine years now. I'm a counselor, so I usually have between 8 and 12 girls that are mine for the' week, and we do camp things. We swim, play sports, have dances, karaoke, and canoe.
I'm kind of like a jack of all trades. I have my hands in a lot of things.
