As holiday bills continue to linger, you may not be surprised to hear this: Your salary isn't what it used to be. Average teacher salaries, which rose 2.3 percent to $47,808 last year, failed to keep pace with the nation's 3.1 percent increase in inflation, according to NEA research. Even worse, average teacher salaries actually declined in three states: Maine, West Virginia, and Alabama!
