BEST BOARDS
NEA Today, Apr 2008
After a study of Asian art and culture, students tried their hands at ink blowing in art class and haiku in English class to make one of our most attractive bulletin boards. One student created a colorful rendering of a Japanese woman, and another brought in a flowered umbrella. The two classes working together made this spedal project fun and educational.

To keep my dasses motivated with good behavior, I created a board that tracks them in a skateboard race against each other. If a dass has excellent behavior, its skateboard moves forward one column. Acceptable behavior means they stay put. Unacceptable moves them back one. The first class in each grade to finish gets a music room party. I often hear kids encouraging each other to strive for an excellent rating.
