SGS Tool Offers Customers Process Improvement
Manufacturing Engineering, Dec 2003
At SGS Tool we're lean, mean and keeping our competitors green (with envy). SGS associates are always thinking of how to make customers' jobs easier, thanks to our Kaizen process and our intimate familiarity with lean manufacturing.
In 1999 SGS introduced the idea of "lean" to all associates by involving them in a training module called "Lean Sim." Lean Sim trains associates by exposing them to a series of simulated manufacturing processes. At the end of each process, associates are asked to analyze financial data and challenged to make improvements that will result in increased profits and customer satisfaction. These intensive simulations have been successful on both counts.
SGS associates also take active part in our continuing Kaizen Program. Every six-to-eight weeks SGS associates participate in a Kaizen event in various parts of the company to study the value stream, reduce set up and changeover time, organize, clean and reduce waste.
The result of these two programs has provided SGS associates with a much better understanding of the ways in which SGS can provide more than quality tools at a competitive price. Additionally, feedback from customers indicates that preference for SGS is at an all-time high because they've come to rely on SGS for value-added services in addition to high-quality tools. SGS Tool is committed to involving associates in every aspect of process improvement and continually providing valuable educational opportunities to help ensure that our team is comprised of "people that do the right job and do the job right."
