Recognizing Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineers are honored

Thirteen M. Eugene Merchant Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer (OYME) Awards were recently presented by SME to 13 individuals (age 35 years or younger) who demonstrate outstanding leadership and achievements in the field of manufacturing engineering. Created in 1979, the award is named in honor of a different SME member each year. This year's honoree is 46-year-member M. Eugene Merchant, a highly respected manufacturing leader known as an outstanding role model for young engineers.
The 2004 M. Eugene Merchant OYME award recipients are:

* Robert G. Landers, assistant professor, University of Missouri at Rolla, Department of Mechanical Engineering
* Soh Khim Ong, assistant professor, University of Singapore, Department of Mechanical Engineering
* Jianbiao Pan, assistant professor, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
