Vertical Systems Increase Storage Capacity

Manufacturing Engineering, Mar 2005

The MegaLift Vertical Lift Module (VLM) and the MegaStation vertical carousel-both made by MegaStar Systems (Marietta, OH), a company of the KRI Group (Zurich, Switzerland)-provide economically efficient storage.

An enclosed system of vertically arranged trays, the MegaLift VLM has an ergonomically designed extraction platform and computer-based controls. Its FlexiSpace feature allows random storage of products to optimize cubic space availability, permitting items of different sizes to be efficiently stored.

Modular design allows configuring the VLM to deal with varying ceiling heights. Its ergonomic design permits items to be delivered within an operator's easy reach, minimizing bending, reaching, and lifting that reduces picking efficiency and can cause injuries.

As for the MegaStation, this system consists of vertically rotating shelves that move up and down along a tracking guide delivering stored items to an operator at an economically positioned extraction shelf. According to the manufacturer, the system can improve order-processing efficiency 50-60% by eliminating the need to manually pick orders. Circle 307
