Outstanding engineering students

Johnson, started with HP in 1983 as a SEED student summer intern working in production, quality assurance, and R&D. She joined HP full time in 1986 as a firm-ware development engineer, writing code for three of the top-selling LaserJet printers. As part of HP's employee growth commitment, she continued her education in a master's in engineering management program.

Having gained success as an engineer and now as an engineering manager, Johnson aspires to build her own company and pursue her personal interests. She advises students, "First learn as much as you can in school. Knowledge is a powerful ally. Second, set your goals early and plan how to achieve them. Procrastination is deadly. But, most importantly, pursue something that you really enjoy. There is no better motivator than to be excited about going to work every day."

Kim Johnson

Anitra D. Brown is a student intern attending Dillard University.
