Focus on: Exploring computer accessories & furniture that belong in the call center

Telemarketing, Jul 1994 by Mannes, Melissa

A. A good acoustical solution includes not only acoustical panels, but the combination of acoustical panels, carpeting, and the type of ceiling in use. Many call centers strive for the proper trade-off between panel heights and a desire for an "open look" in the center, versus higher-height panels for privacy and acoustical value. The best solution is to have a knowledgeable call center vendor take your physical facility into consideration, as well as your "people" objectives, and to design the stations accordingly. The furniture vendor can consider such things as space constraints, types of accessories being utilized, etc., and design/position the stations in a manner that will provide the best acoustical value.

Q. How important is it for a furniture vendor to have the ability to "customize" products for call center applications?

A. If space is particularly tight, the ability to customize becomes important to efficiently utilize the floor space. For example, areas around columns can be fitted with a worksurface for printer locations, storage, etc. Printer and storage cabinets can be designed to accommodate specific printer dimensions, and positioned at the end of workstation groupings or in otherwise unusable areas. Work stations can be customized to provide the operator with the largest possible worksurface area, while maintaining the required aisle space, etc. In short, a vendor's ability to customize should provide you with the best use of your floor space.
