Newstech plans Northampton shut

Pulp & Paper, Sep 2003

Newstech said its deinked market pulp mill in Northampton, Pa., will take extended downtime that will allow the company to increase the mill's capacity to 150,000 mtpy or 165,000 tpy. The company said the mill has built-up inventory because of the downtime plan.

The company said the built-up inventory from Northampton would feed the company's 75,000-tpy Newstech NY Inc. groundwood specialty mill in Deferiet, MY Newstech did not say how long the downtime would last and added that Newstech PA will look to find more market pulp customers during the downtime.

The Deferiet mill produces newsprint and uncoated groundwood papers. Northampton's deinked pulp is used for producing newsprint, directory, and tissue.
