PAPER AND PAPERBOARD PRODUCTS

ROCK-TEMM CO.

The White Label security Board Series 2000, part of a line of paperboard products, features Appleton TechMark taggant stock that does not interfere with printing or require modifications to production setups. The microscopic ultraviolet taggants are randomly embedded directly into the fiber paper at the mill and provide covert brand protection and instant authentication of goods in transit. Implanted machine-readable codes offer enhanced capabilities for authentication, database links, and integration into a comprehensive security program.

IGCESUND PAPERBOARD

Invercote Duo is a paperboard packaging product that features equal-sided triple coating on the printing and reverse sides because it is a laminate-two paperboard sheets whose reverse sides have been glued together. Invercote Duo is available in sizes from 370 to 770 g/m^sup 3^, and the latter offers a greater thickness, stiffness, and grammage that the company can produce on its board machines. A special grade of Invercote Duo was used in Gucci's Eau de Parfum II campaign, and the result was a grade in which the printing sides were glued to each other and the rougher reverse sides were left exposed to the consumer.

BOWATER INC.

BowGloss, a coated mechanical 5-lb grade, is now available in 32-Ib and 34-Ib basis weights, and BowSCB is now available in 26-Ib, 28-Ib, and 30-Ib basis weights. Both papers are suitable for inserts, catalogs, magazines, and direct mail and offer good runnability and printability. The BowGloss 32-Ib and 34-Ib sheets are higher bulking sheets, which means that the 34-Ib sheet will bulk at or above the company's 36-Ib conventional coated mechanical sheet.

APPLETON

Appleton has created the second in a series of educational brochures-this one on the misconceptions of direct thermal paper-that describes the handling, printing, efficiency, and security features of direct thermal labels in warehousing and distribution center applications. Direct thermal labels allow for higher productivity without ribbons to handle. They have very long lifespans, their bar codes have been shown to be scannable 18 months after printing, and using them can lead to a higher level of efficiency because only one consumable is required versus thermal transfer printers, which require suitable labels and compatible ribbons.

FIBERMARK INC.

Kivar 6 is a new line of high-strength, 60-Ib kraft cover paper for the book publishing market and is available in 67 solid colors, four prints, nine inclusion papers, and four parchment looks. Kivar 6 meets and exceeds NASTA and ANSI/LBI end leaf specifications for tear, burst, tensile, and fold and can be embossed, stamped, screen printed or line offset printed. It is suited for one- and three-piece, case-bound book construction and has applications in the decorative packaging and binder markets.
