Georgia-Pacific Corp. will invest $20 million over the next two years on automating its Muskogee tissue mill in eastern Oklahoma and plans additional investment at the mill in the two years after that. A company official said the outlay is part of a four-year strategic plan to boost production 12% in the next 18 months and then 4% after that, at the same time keeping costs low. Contacts said G-P authorized the improvements because of the mill's proven efficiency and innovation.

The Muskogee mill has three twin-wire machines with 195-in. trim and two twin-wire machines with 263-in. trim that between them produce 920 tpd of tissue, napkin, and towel products. The improvements are expected to increase production to more than 1,000 tpd in 2006.

The mill has onsite power generation and wastewater treatment plants and houses one of G-P's few plastic-wrap production facilities.
