With continued warm, dry weather, crews should finish La Crosse's new Mississippi River bridge by Nov. 17, a construction leader said Wednesday.

"I'm happy with the process we are making. I don't see any reason why we wouldn't make that deadline," said Gary Snyder, bridge project leader for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The final deck pour has been moved to Wednesday or Thursday of next week because of a technical glitch, he said. Crews also need to finish pouring a half mile of parapet, installing sidewalk railing the length of the bridge, staining concrete and painting steel, Snyder said.

The, $40 million project will provide safer access on both sides of the river.

It Will be one way from Barron Island near La Crescent, Minn., while the existing Cass Street bridge will be one-way from La Crosse heading west.
