Palm Desert has marque month

Public Record, The, Sep 30, 1994 by Hercules, Neil

With Palm Desert alone issuing more permit valuations than were recorded for the entire month of August in 1993, the eight reporting Valley cities rocketed to a $40,657,327 month.

Palm Desert accounted for $22,369,269 of the total, as it checked in with 165 permits for single family homes with valuations of $31,285,361.

Also contributing to the Palm Desert total were permits for three commercial buildings in the Desert Crossing Center totaling $6,344,500. They included: Marshall's, $2,012,580; Bed, Bath & Beyond, $2,340,111 and T.J. Maxx, $1,991,809.

The permit for the new Target Store, totaling more than $7 million was issued in a previous month.

Not only did Palm Desert's total exceed the entire Valley's total last year, but it also totaled more than all the permits issued for the eight other reporting cities during August of this year.

Single family homes again accounted for the greatest dollar volume during August--$23,350,380, as 220 permits were issued for this category.

Indio issued permits for 46 homes during the month for $4,136,573, boosting its August total to $4,517,492. La Quinta followed by issuing permits for 15 homes for a total valuation of $2,205,938.

Palm Springs barely edged Indio to take over second place among Valley cities in total permit valuations, getting a $2.4 million lift from the issuance of a permit to Desert Hospital for an ambulatory care facility addition.

Also, Palm Springs issued a permit for remodeling work at the Pacific Monarch Resort Timeshares, located across the street from the old Canyon Hotel.

A permit for $84,448 was issued to the new Palm Springs Market Fair, which is under construction and scheduled to open on Ramon Road at the wash during October.

La Quinta, with $3,115,853 followed Indio in fourth place among the eight reporting Valley cities; others in order were: Rancho Mirage, $2,406,067; Indian Wells, $1,936,994; Desert Hot Springs, $1,011,229, and Coachella, $470,108. Cathedral City's report was not available at press time.
