Hyatt Vacation Club slated for Indian Wells
Public Record, The, Jun 05, 1998
INDIAN WELLS--Once planned as the site for two hotels, a prime 30-acre parcel adjoining the City Hall and the Indian Wells Tennis Stadium is now targeted for a 24-building, 300 unit timeshare project by the Solit Interests Corp. of Alameda.
HVC Indian Wells, representing Solit, is in the City Planning Department for an environmental impact report, a prelude to all the applications needed to start the Project on its way to fruition.
The timeshare project will be operated as the Hyatt Vacation Club of Indian Wells as a part of its Hyatt Vacation Ownership. The Hyatt has a major hotel near the site.
Needed, eventually, will be a conditional use permit, zone change and general plan amendment, among other applications.
There will be a mix of both two and three-story buildings in the project.
The Hyatt is among the major hotel chains that are developing their own timeshares. The Marriott Corp. announced recently that it is planning to build 1,200 timeshare units in the North Sphere of Palm Desert, east of Monterey Avenue and north of Frank Sinatra Drive.
Meantime, no decision has been made about what will happen to the Indian Wells tennis stadium. An application has been made through the County Planning Office to build a giant tennis complex east of Washington Street and south of Fred Waring Drive. This would retain the Newsweek tennis tournament.
The old tennis stadium courts could be used by guests at the Hyatt Hotel and the timeshare owners and guests, it is speculated.
