Confidence Golf, Inc. expands

THOUSAND PALMS -- A new golf club manufacturing firm is expanding from a plant employing 25 people to a new building in the Metroplex Industrial Park which will employ up to 75.

Guy Evans, contractor, has applied with the East Area Planning Office in Indio to fast track a plot plan and environmental assessment for a 25,620 square foot manufacturing plant, warehouse, shipping and receiving departments and office on 1.5 acres.

Evans will not only build, but will own the building, which is expected to cost about 1.8 million; it will be leased to Confidence Golf Inc., which for the past four years has operated out of two smaller buildings in the Cook Street industrial area. The Palm Desert operation will be closed out.

Confidence Golf, currently headquartered at 75-150 Sheryl Avenue, is headed by Bob Williams, president; its vice president of sales and marketing is Dennis Wente.

Its sole product is the Confidence brand of golf clubs; distribution is nationwide, but most of its customers are located in the Midwest. The firm was started in California, then years ago moved to Texas, later electing return to California to Palm Desert.

The firm has now targeted a December, 1999 opening for its new, greatly enlarged manufacturing facility and offices in this community, and is often described as a prime contender for title of "Distribution center for the Desert Empire."

The new plant will be built on Metroplex Drive near Varner Road in an area burgeoning with manufacturing and distribution plants and warehouses. Evans hopes to start construction by August 1.

The architect is Robert Ricciardi of Palm Desert.
