Public Record, The, Aug 28, 1998

There was no letup in the pace of building construction up and down the Valley during July, figures compiled from seven of the nine reporting cities reveal.

With only Indian Wells and Coachella not reporting, the seven other cities, getting impetus from single-family home construction, soared to a $58,654,858 month, about 35 percent ahead of July of 1997, when the valuations totaled $43,370,752.

Palm Desert and La Quinta slugged it out, with Palm Desert edging out La Quinta, $19,985,529 to $18,416,804.

La Quinta continued to hang onto its crown as the single-family home leader, by issuing permits for 108 homes at a valuation of $16,456,494 for the month.

Palm Desert came in second in this category, issuing permits for 45 homes at a valuation of $11,723,176.

Returning to its spot as one of the single-family home leaders was Cathedral City, in fourth place among Valley cities, issuing permits for 42 homes at a valuation of $5,920,230.

Taking over fourth place among the Valley leaders was Rancho Mirage with a $9,704,785 month. Actually, more permits were issued for single-family homes in July than during June.
