And finally, I believe neither of these books deals adequately with a major deterrent to religion in schools: grading. Webb mentions the problem obliquely and dismisses it too quickly. Assigning grades in English is tough enough. In religion, if creed and commitment join forces, the teacher, grade book in hand, will traverse terrain in which the land mines are buried close together.
