Middle school math help

Teaching Pre K-8, Jan 1995 by Allen, Denise

Middle school math help. Sunburst Communications, Inc. has come to the aid of middle school teachers who want to incorporate technology into their math curriculum. Exploring Mathematics with Technology: Number and Operation Sense assists teachers in implementing NCTM standards, teaching a stand-alone unit, or supplementing the textbook. Consisting of three software components, a teacher resource package and kit can be easily used in a classroom or in a computer lab.

"How the West was One+Three * Four" engages students in moving a locomotive and stagecoach along a number line while creating expressions using numbers from a spinner. Students will be challenged as they strive toward a better understanding of "order of operations."

In "Puzzle Tanks," students explore number relationships and invent solutions with the help of visual simulations on the screen. There are four levels of play, and each problem has several solutions.

"Divide and Conquer" encourages active investigation as students participate in a code-breaking activity organized around division with a remainder. Logical reasoning plays a big part in conquering this game.
