This month's hot web sites can add sparkle to your math and science curriculum with features on famous scientists, a study of the brain and explorations with calculators.
BRITANNICA GUIDE TO THE NOBEL PRIZES http://www.eb.com
The latest Britannica Online spotlight is a "Guide to the Nobel Prizes." Users will find a table of Nobel winners, categorized by name, prize and year, with hyperlinks to biographies and articles about the 600 recipients and their discoveries. Assign groups to research the six annual awards, look up the winners and create a timeline of events. Download audio and video clips to enhance timelines. Display a Nobel Prize bulletin board of student research and facts using the extensive resources at this incredible site.
All spotlight features become part of the subscription service; teachers can get a free seven-day access or can subscribe for $85 a year or $8.50 a month. The Online Britannica is comprehensive with more than 72,000 articles and 20,000 related Internet links accessed with both natural language and boolean searches.
New spotlights planned for 1998 are the Winter Olympics, Black History and Women's History.

Texas Instruments provides rich educational solutions for using calculators in the curriculum. In Classroom Activities, there are dozens of math and science activities and lessons using TI caculators, categorized for elementary and middle school and by content area.
New activities are added each month. Teachers can download current or past issues of three newsletters: It's About TI.ME. (Technology in Math Education) for K-8 classrooms; TI-Cares for educational support programs; and Eightysomething! for classrooms using TI graphing calculators.
The Training and Organizations resource includes conferences and workshops for calculator technology, as well as links to Math and Science organizations. The links found in Other WWW Resources contain math and science resources that will further extend your curriculum and enhance the use of calculators in the classroom. There are even downloadable calculator programs archived at this site.
