Some books worth a look

Teaching Pre K-8, Mar 2001 by Lamainck, Lester

With all this talk about testing, you might find these books informative and entertaining.

Testing Miss Malarkey by Judy Finchler (Walker & Company, 2000). Miss Malarkey's class is getting ready for the Instructional Performance Through Understanding test (LP.T.U., or "I pity you"). She assures the kids that the test isn't that important and that it won't affect their report cards, it won't mean extra homework and they'll still be able to go on to the next grade. But a series of events reveals that the I.P.T.U. may be a bit more important than Miss Malarkey lets on.

First Grade Takes a Test by Miriam Cohen (Dell, 1995). Although this book isn't new, it's certainly appropriate for the topic. The first graders are taking a test to find out who's smartest. What they find out is that friends are more important than test scores.
