A Full-Service Homework Center

Creating the Full-Service Homework Cener in Your Library is the title of the how-to that provides all the information your public librarian needs to become a real partner with you.

We really, really like this 120-pager published by the American Library Association. It's a 7 x 10, paper-- bound and $32 for non-ALA members. In 15 easy-read chapters the book covers all of the questions you'd want to ask from "Why Homework Centers?" to service hours, needs assessment, training, space, security and methods of assessing effectiveness. This idea seems so logical, but we haven't seen too many programs of the type begun in Orange, California by author Cindy Mediavilla. This gets four stars from us.
